MPS contribute to Quoceant’s Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) project to accelerate Q-Connect

Marine Power Systems (MPS) are to join forces with Quoceant on their OWGP project to accelerate their Q-Connect technology into the floating offshore wind market.

Quoceant have been developing marine quick connection systems, both for mooring and electrical connections, for many years and gaining experience of their operation in both wave and tidal applications. Q-Connect recently completed a three-year programme of detailed design and qualification testing as part of Wave Energy Scotland’s development programme.

The OWGP funding was secured in early 2024 to adapt Q-Connect for general use in floating wind by providing a design basis for integration of higher rated electrical connectors and increased load capacity mooring connectors.

The Q-Connect system

MPS will provide funding, input, and guidance from a user’s perspective, and they are interested in using the Q-Connect system for either or both the mechanical connection of tethers and the electrical connection to the grid.

Marine Power System’s advanced floating platform technology, PelaFlex, supports the rapid deployment of industrial scale floating offshore wind, whilst maximising local benefits and reducing both risk and overall project costs.
